At the time of starting
this company, Jean and I have been married for 42 years. After all these years I can still say that she is my best friend. We share so many experiences. I could not be who I am today without her. We have no secrets to share on a happy marriage. We live life on life’s terms and always held a deep respect for each other. We have two married sons and enjoy normal stresses and strains of life.
Early in our married years we discovered our love for travel and the outdoors, and over the years we cultivated this love, sharing it with our children.
Like anyone else, we had bonds, school fees and so many other expenses. We had to live on a budget; so, we understand that for many people, holiday is not a first priority. But, despite this, we carved out time for our breaks, realising that they were necessary for our sanity, even though we had life to deal with.
I think that most people,
when planning a holiday, will plan a destination. Typically, what follows then is to find suitable accommodation and the price of this accommodation will determine the length of stay, before returning home. Next, they may look at the facilities that are offered at the accommodation and some activities around where they will be staying. Decidedly, everything is linked to a budget.
So, what happens next? You prepare, pack, and on the day, leave as early as you can, then rush off to your destination to start enjoying your holiday. Then after a week, or two if you are lucky, you rush back home again. The holiday is done as dusted!
For many years we travelled around our beautiful country and our focus has always been on the journey itself, rather than the destination. Rather than booking a destination, we see where the road will take us. For some, this may seem daunting and even a bit risky. We want to be in control of everything. Where will we sleep; what will we eat; what will we do?
Firstly, travelling in this way means that there is no rush to get anywhere. Secondly, it allows us to experience what we would miss along the road if we focussed on the destination only. Believe me, there will always be accommodation along the way, so you don’t have to panic. We will show this to you as we take you through our road trips and our exciting experiences. Even when we travelled outside the country, for example Namibia, Mozambique, or even further abroad Europe, Australia and so on, we would hire a vehicle and just take the road. We book in and sleep where we find accommodation. There will always be accommodation available.
But don’t worry! If you still feel that you’d like to plan beforehand, then you’ve come to the right place. This is the reason we established this website. Loveroadtravel will have road maps and places interest to visit so that you can plan your trip beforehand, but please, enjoy the road. Enjoy the journey, not just the destination.
There is so much attached to a proper holiday. Find a place where you can find yourself, enjoy your family and your relationship with your partner. Life has so much to offer. Loveroadtravel has been launched in September 2022 and will steadily carve our path in the travel industry!

Jean and I have always enjoyed the freedom of the road. Being road trippers, road runners and hikers, we always enjoyed the freedom that came with being outdoors. It is our desire to share our passion for the outdoors. We want to share our experiences and by so doing introduce the South Africa we’ve come to know.
In our travel magazine we want to share our experiences with you. Our focus will be on travel through South Africa, outside the main cities. We want to show the many travel gems that surround us, the friendly people whom you can engage with along our travel journeys. Our focus is on highlighting affordable, yet exhilarating travel gems in South Africa.
We will never ask for freebies. You can trust that our reviews will be objective.
Our experiences are personal. We will share places we have travelled through and roads that we have travelled on as well as people to whom we have spoken to so that your information is first hand. You are also able to ask us for clarification or more information via this website.
Our Vision
At Love Road Travel you can trust the information that is posted. All our experiences are first hand. This means that we have visited these places personally. You will be able to engage with us at any time you wish to. We will respond within two days to your questions.
We want to give more publicity to farm accommodations in our country and to register with local tourism boards, national and international tourism boards.
We welcome your reviews and ask that they are constructive. We cannot respond to criticism as we merely report on what are experiences are. Yours may be different and we will respect that. (I may prefer a thin base pizza, whereas you may prefer a thick base one. This won’t change the experience at the restaurant you are eating at.)
